Figure 22a) readjust your lipline (probably for the last time) and pin (with screenwire over the corners) - this will hold corners in place and give you a really good look to face – lots of taxidermists don’t ‘card’ areas because they think that is the mark of an amateur – hey if it works I will use it
and ….IT WORKS
Figure 23) reshape the nose to fit form and put something in it to hold it in place til the glue sets up – nice look don’t you think
Figure 24) always card the ears to get a tight edge on them – even bondo ears benefit from carding
Figure 24a) here’s the completed mount getting ready to dry
Figure 25) the eyes have dried couple of days now – we have reshaped them as they are drying – we are getting ready to finish this eye up (at least to get it in place so it can dry for a couple of weeks)
Figure 26) place a small amount of sculptall in corner and smooth it out to look like reference – this eye is a little rough yet but is looking very good for the stage of drying we are in
Figure 27) its time to finish mount (this is a different coyote than the one we started with) – nose looks horrible at this time – if nostrils are not symmetrical fill in with sculptall and reshape
Figure 28) real nostrils on the inside are pink – for ddt (down and dirty taxidermy) I paint everything black or Payne’s grey – unless this is a competition piece the inside of the nose is never seen
Figure 29) paint the edges of eyes – I don’t mask it off – just slap it on with a fine brush
